I am currently the Coordinator of Instruction and Coach for Literacy and the REMC 16 Director at Washtenaw Intermediate School District in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, secondary teaching certificate in English and Psychology, Master of Arts in Curriculum and Teaching (MACT), and Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) all at Michigan State University. My main focus areas are instruction and coaching around the English Language Arts (reading, writing, speaking and listening), disciplinary literacy, and digital literacy.
I taught 8th and 9th grade English Language Arts for eight years, and served as department chair for three of those years. At Michigan State University, I taught English methods and adolescent literacy courses to secondary teacher candidates, and served as a field instructor coach for secondary teacher interns. As a Red Cedar Writing Project Fellow, I began to write and publish articles in the areas of struggling readers, struggling writers, parental involvement in student writing and teacher collaboration.
After serving as a K-12 Literacy Coach for a public school district, as the current Coordinator of Instruction, I now help to create teacher leaders by supporting and forming networks for ongoing professional development aimed at improving literacy instruction to raise student achievement.
Personally, I enjoy spending time with my young family, reading, baking, doing yoga, hiking, and listening to U2!
